One consultation, end to end

What the patient and the doctor see

A telemedicine app is judged by the ten minutes of the consult and everything around it. Here is a single consultation, step by step, as each side experiences it.

  1. Book

    Patient app

Picks a speciality or a known doctor, chooses video, audio or chat, and a slot that suits.

    Doctor app

Sees the booking on their day list with the reason for visit and any earlier history.

  2. Identify and consent

    Patient app

Confirms name, age and a contact number, uploads old reports, and agrees to the teleconsult terms.

    Doctor app

Sees who the patient is, whether it is a first consult or a follow-up, and the recorded consent.

  3. Consult

    Patient app

Joins from a reminder link; the call adjusts to a weak network and falls back to audio if needed.

    Doctor app

Talks, views shared photos and reports, and types notes in the same screen.

  4. Prescribe

    Patient app

Receives a signed e-prescription with the doctor's name, qualification and registration number.

    Doctor app

Builds the prescription from templates, with medicine lists checked against the mode and consult type.

  5. Follow up

    Patient app

Gets reminders, books the review in one tap and can message about side effects.

    Doctor app

Sees the follow-up date, the previous notes and anything the patient shared since.

Built around the guidelines

What India's telemedicine rules mean for the app

The Telemedicine Practice Guidelines issued in March 2020 are written for doctors, but they decide several screens. These are the parts we design for from the first workshop.

List O

Any mode

Common, relatively safe medicines such as paracetamol or ORS can be prescribed over video, audio or text.

List A

Video first consult

A further inclusion list that needs a video consultation for a first consult, and can be re-prescribed as refills on follow-up.

List B

Follow-up only

Medicines that can be added during a follow-up for a condition already treated in person.

Prohibited

Never online

Schedule X and narcotic or psychotropic medicines under the NDPS Act cannot be prescribed through telemedicine.

Consent the right way

When the patient starts the consult, consent is implied. When a doctor, health worker or caregiver starts it, explicit consent is needed, and it can be recorded as a message, audio or video. The app stores whichever applies.

First consult or follow-up

A follow-up means the same doctor, the same condition and an in-person visit within the last six months. The app works that out from history, so the prescription screen offers the right medicine list.

Doctor identity on every prescription

Prescriptions carry the doctor's name, qualification and registration number. Doctor onboarding in the admin panel checks these before a doctor can accept consults.

Records and data

Consult notes, shared reports and prescriptions are kept as records, with role-based access and the purpose-and-consent approach of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

This is a summary for product planning, not legal or medical advice. Your medical team and advisers decide clinical policy; we build the app to enforce it.

Choosing the consult mode

Video, audio or text?

Most Coimbatore clinics offer more than one. The guidelines treat each mode differently, and so does the app.

VideoAudioText and photos
Best for
VideoFirst consults, skin, wounds, physiotherapy reviews
AudioFollow-ups, results discussions, elderly patients
Text and photosQuick questions, report sharing, side-effect checks

Who we build for

Telemedicine for Coimbatore's care network

Multi-specialty hospitals

Outpatient teleconsults and post-discharge reviews, so patients from Tiruppur, Pollachi or the Nilgiris do not travel for a ten-minute check.

Clinic chains and specialists

Branded consult apps for dermatology, diabetes, paediatrics, psychiatry or fertility practices with their own follow-up rhythm.

Diagnostic labs

Report delivery with a doctor call to explain results, home sample booking and reminders for repeat tests.

Physiotherapy and rehabilitation

Video sessions with exercise plans, progress photos and attendance across a course of treatment.

Health startups

Doctor marketplaces, second-opinion services and condition-specific programmes that need patient, doctor and admin apps from day one.

Corporate and campus health

Teleconsults for employees or students, with a company or college admin seeing usage, not medical records.

Doctor appointment booking

Bridj

Patients search doctors by speciality and book a slot from the list. The same booking core sits under every teleconsult.

Video call app screens with audio and video toggles, today's activity, earnings and a wallet for buying coins

Real-time audio and video

Video call app

Audio and video calls with per-minute billing, earnings for the person taking calls and a wallet. Paid teleconsults follow the same pattern.

How we work

From the first clinic visit to launch

  1. Sit with the front desk and two doctors

We watch how appointments, calls and prescriptions happen today in your Coimbatore clinic or hospital, and write down every exception.

  2. Agree clinical rules in writing

Which specialities go online, which modes each allows, how first consults and follow-ups are handled, and who signs prescriptions.

  3. Design all three apps together

Clickable designs of the patient app, doctor app and admin panel are reviewed side by side by your doctors and staff.

  4. Build and test with real doctors

Short cycles with test builds on your own phones, including calls on weak networks and older Android handsets.

  5. Pilot, then launch

One department or a few doctors go live first. Store listings, health app declarations and go-live support follow, then regular updates.

Planning guide

How to build a telemedicine app that doctors actually use

Start from the doctor's day, not the patient's screen

Most telemedicine apps that fail do so on the doctor's side. A consultant who sees forty patients in an outpatient session will not open a separate laptop, log in twice and retype notes. The doctor app has to fit between in-person patients: a clear day list, one tap to join, notes and prescription on the same screen, and a quick way to say the consult is done.

So the first workshop is with the doctors and the front desk. We map how a slot is booked today, who calls the patient when the doctor is running late, and where prescriptions are written. The patient app is designed after that, because a patient will forgive a plain screen far sooner than a doctor who never turns up.

Decide which care goes online

Not every speciality suits a call. Follow-ups for diabetes, thyroid and blood pressure, dermatology photos, mental health sessions, report discussions and physiotherapy reviews often work well. Chest pain, injuries and anything needing an examination should be routed to the hospital. The app can carry those rules: triage questions before booking, a clear emergency message, and a doctor option to convert a teleconsult into an in-person appointment.

Write the rules down with your medical team first. We then build them into the booking form, the consult-type check and the prescription screen, so staff do not have to remember them on a busy morning.

Plan for Coimbatore's networks and patients

Patients will join from a city flat on fibre, a farmhouse near Thondamuthur on weak 4G, or a relative's phone in another district. Calls must adapt their quality, fall back to audio and reconnect without losing the consult. Reminders go by SMS and WhatsApp, and older patients should be able to join from a link without installing anything new. Tamil and English screens, large text and a family member who can book on someone's behalf all matter more than an extra feature.

Itboomi is a dedicated mobile app development company with its office in Tiruppur, about an hour from Coimbatore, and we test on the kind of phones your patients actually carry.

Own the platform, or rent one?

Ready-made teleconsult platforms are quick to start, but your patients, branding and data sit inside someone else's product, and custom rules are hard to add. Your own app takes longer to plan, yet every follow-up, review and referral stays with your hospital or clinic. Many groups start with the services they already run, then extend into home sample collection, pharmacy delivery and chronic care programmes.

If you also need clinic, ward or lab apps, read our healthcare app development page. For doctor visits booked like a home service, see on-demand app development. Our React Native app development page explains how one codebase serves Android and iPhone, and custom mobile app development covers apps shaped around your own workflow. Or start from our Coimbatore homepage.

FAQ

Telemedicine app questions

What does a telemedicine app include?

Usually a patient app for booking, paying and joining consults, a doctor app for the day list, notes and prescriptions, and an admin panel for doctors, specialities, fees and reports. All three share one secure backend.

Do you build telemedicine apps for Coimbatore hospitals and clinics?

Yes. Itboomi is a dedicated mobile app development company with its office in Tiruppur, about an hour from Coimbatore. We meet hospital and clinic teams in Coimbatore for discovery and launch, and run the build with regular test releases.

Does the app follow India's Telemedicine Practice Guidelines?

We design consent capture, first-consult and follow-up checks, medicine lists by mode and doctor details on prescriptions around the 2020 guidelines. Your medical team sets the clinical policy, and the app enforces it.

Can patients consult by audio or chat instead of video?

Yes. The app can offer video, audio and text with photos, and the doctor can switch a weak video call to audio. Prescription options follow the mode used.

Will the apps work on Android and iPhone?

Yes. We build the patient and doctor apps with React Native, so one codebase produces both Android and iOS apps, and we publish them under your organisation's store accounts.

How much does a telemedicine app cost?

It depends on the modes, specialities, payments and integrations you need. After a discovery session we agree a fixed scope and price in writing before development starts; contact us through the contact page to begin.

Who owns the app and the patient data?

Your hospital or clinic does. Source code, store accounts and all patient and doctor data belong to you, hosted on infrastructure you control, with access limited by role.
